In contrast to what many people believe, the history of Self Storage did not begin in America. Self Storage originally emerged in England when institutional banks were asked to safeguard clients’ valuable goods. Overcrowded vaults forced the bankers to look for extra space. Around 1850 the first warehouses were built for the storage of household and personal items. It was still quite primitive and very labour-intensive. Only in the 1960s, in Texas (USA), were the first Self Storage facilities realised as we know them today.
The first Self Storage facility in the Netherlands was built in 1996.
The founder of Eurobox Self Storage was closely involved at that time. In the years that followed, developments in the Netherlands also accelerated. Self Storage companies have become indispensable in most cities. Eurobox responds to the rapidly growing demand for flexible storage centres in the Netherlands. At Eurobox you will find Self Storage centres where security, flexibility, optimal service and only the highest quality come first. It’s no coincidence that Eurobox is by far the best when it comes to space!
Eurobox opened its first branch in Noordwijk in 2006. In the years that followed, Alkmaar and Hengelo came next; these branches were later transferred to a partner company. In 2009 the Hoofddorp branch was opened. In 2012 we became the first Self Storage provider in the municipality of Leiden. In 2017 we opened a branch in Rotterdam. In 2019 we succeeded in establishing a branch in Haarlem, fulfilling a long-cherished wish: back in 2006 we had first drawn up plans to set up both a branch and our head office there. In Bergen op Zoom we opened our sixth branch on 1 January 2021, followed by a branch in Gouda on 1 January 2022. In Dordrecht we will open our eighth branch at the end of 2023. Our story is far from over, as we still aim to grow further in the future.
